A method of monitoring a lymphoid neoplasm in a patient with defined cancer clonotypes comprising the steps of: (a) determining a profile of recombinant DNA sequences in T cells and/or B cells from a sample obtained from the patient, wherein the profile is determined by next generation sequencing; and (b) determining levels of the defined cancer clonotypes in the profile to monitor the lymphoid neoplasm. The invention generally relates to the control of the health and disease conditions of an individual by molecular measurements, and more particularly, to the control of the health and disease conditions of an individual by measuring profiles of the immune system molecules using a high performance DNA sequencing.
